Pillow Fight!!!

Well that was interesting... I am getting ready to write this post and my 6yo comes up to me with a measuring tape. She asks me to hold one end and then measures my height. "63" she pronounces, writes it on her sticky pad and walks off very matter of factly. She almost got my height correct - she forgot to account for the holder. Another lesson another day. At least she can measure height.

Back on topic.... PILLOW FIGHT!!!! If you go back to my post on July 4th you will see a comment from Carlee at Ladybird Ln. about a box of pillow cases. It's the cutest little blog that I was introduced to through the pillow fight! Of course I had to add them to my Google Reader. They have beautifully creative ideas and a heart that truly SHINE's! Basically the ladies sponsored a competition for us crafters. Make a pillow to show off, then make a pillowcase for Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT. They said you could donate the pillowcases locally if you prefer, but I just had to send them. Such passion, such compassion! I had to help let them SHINE in their community. I think I read that Malynn (14yo) goal was 100 pillowcases - you knew it had to be a teen to stir up this much passion! Last I checked they were close. You can read the whole story here.

Any way... As soon as I heard about this I had to check my stash for fabric to make pillowcases. In the first pass through I calculated yardage and thought WOW 7 pillowcases! This is great! Then I started digging some more and had to pick up a few yards to coordinate with some of the stuff I found. This is what happened -

24 pillowcases! Boy and girl ones!

I know that not all 24 are prefect, but they were made with love and some little kid is going to love their rhombus shaped pillowcase! (Yes next time I'll pre-shrink every yard.)

Now, there's a funny story to go with these. I was sewing up until the day before I left for vacation. They were in the wash the day we were packing for vacation. I was determined that these pillowcases would get to their home before vacation started! We left early on Saturday morning from Leander, TX. The post office wasn't open yet. No worries we'll find one on the way. As we passed by the one in Burnet I couldn't get my husband to turn around. Of course there would be another one. We missed another one, and then we were searching for them. Each little town we would spot some of the craziest looking post offices and they would be vacant! Tumble weeds were flying by! Of course the next day was a Sunday, but of course every time someone saw a post office they would point it out. We arrived in Ruidoso, NM Sunday evening and unpacked - leaving the little box in the car. Monday we traveled to Roswell and noted the post offices along the way - 4th of July. Tuesday - I googled the post office an it was our first stop. We added a couple post cards to the out going mail that day. This spurred a daily hunt for post cards and mom texting friends to get mailing addresses. It got to be that every time we passed a post office we would point it out, sometimes we would actually mail post cards from it. The most fun was mailing the post cards from an Indian Reservation. Finally I broke down and bought stamps. I asked for a sheet of stamps and they were scout stamps! It was so appropriate for our little scouts to be mailing to their friends! On the way home we just kept pointing out the post offices because it was tradition. Thanks Ladybird Ln. for adding another facet on our jeweled trip!

That's great! I made 50 for a low income children's day care nd they didn't seem to know what to do with them. I wish I'd sent them to her instead.

Thank you for commenting. It makes me so happy! I'm not a widely read blog so I always wonder if anyone is reading or if I'm just talking to myself.
